Fleetstreet Resident Program
Detailed Application

Vera Jonas and Marton Fenyvesi

Vera Jonas is a London based Hungarian singer-songwriter. Her recent activities include jazz influenced songs with elements of spoken word, pop, hip-hop and live electronics (loops and effects). She also started accompaning her music with visual arts, shot by herself in various places in London, finding an atmosphere visually that suits her songs. Her new EP entitled Pyjama Sessions was recorded in Amsterdam in October 2010, arranged and co-written with Marton Fenyvesi, accompanied by his band, the Amsterdam-Budapest Underground. The songs are all originals, they are performing it live with a full band and also in duo. She's working with music producer and keyboard player Gibbs King (Roots Manuva, NFA), writing electronic music which will be released this summer.

Marton Fenyvesi is a Hungarian guitarist, composer and arranger living in Budapest. He plays in various well known jazz and contemporary ensembles, combos and big bands in Hungary (Modern Art Orchestra, Elemer Balazs Sextet, Barcza Congressio, Nikoletta Szoke Trio, Daniel Vaczi Quartet), won many hungarian and also international jazz prizes in the last few years (Monaco Jazz Soloist Competition 2010, 3rd prize, Hungarian Jazz Society Combo Competition 2008), composes and arranges music for small and large ensembles. He formed his own international band called Amsterdam-Budapest Undergound in 2009 at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and recorded one live and one studio demos in the past two years with his own compositions and a couple of standards. He is teaching at the Egressy Beni Conservatory in Budapest, Hungary.

Projects

Vera Jonas and Marton Fenyvesi are living and working apart from eachother in London and Budapest since 2009. They write, compose and arrange their own music, yet their plans together musically grew stronger and more defined in the last year. They recorded, arranged together, setting up an international co-operation on the axis of London-Boston-Amsterdam-Budapest, playing gigs in Europe. Their aim is to make this work more affective and successful without boundaries. The Hamburg Resident Program is a perfect opportunity for them to finally have a place they both could stay, and encourage their music to grow without thinking how little time they have in their hands to work face-to-face.

Audiovisual piece created together over the internet working apart from each other

It would be a very fortunate situation for both of them to stay in the same city for 3 months, as in the last years they have been travelling on the axis of London-Amsterdam-Budapest and using the internet to compose, rehearse and arrange with limited time and space. This opportunity would give thek a great chance to spend quality time together, without any distractions, and would help the the project grow enourmusly.
